Don’t be misled by the picture of a C64. This is not about it even I really love this old machine.

You know what Doom is don’t you? No, not the end of the world and neither the sub-genre of metal from the 70s.
What I mean is the really old PC-Games from the 90s - Doom 1 from 1993 and and it’s successor Doom 2 from 1994. The ones with the bix pixels and which defined 3D-Gaming and the shooter genre at all.
If you have played them back in the day on a 486 or on one of the first PCs with a Pentium (like I) you are perhaps more or less old.

And yes, people out there still playing it in 2023. Believe it or not. There is a huge community around it about mods, speed-runs, source-ports, and …. well, a lot of different stuff.

Well, but I want to go into a bit different direction. Recently the youtube-algorithm directed me to a channel of decino and he goes after Doom in a bit different way and I really like his approach and content.

A few examples:
- He dives into the source-code to explain the AI of the enemies
- How the different weapons work
- The mystery of the missile of the revenant
- The cheat codes
- ….

Have a look at the playlist:

Everything really excellent analyzed from the technical site and how it influences the gameplay. A real tresure if you are interested in the tech behind games made back in the day - in my opinion that is something still relevant today.

Go over and hit the follow button. Binge the videos and hope for more stuff about Doom and it’s tech. Even when you’re not that old ^^.
